A cold day at Narita Airport: choosing a hot bowl that warms you through

In winter you spend a long time on your feet with luggage, and even indoors an airport gets cold. That is the day for hot udon.

Our dashi is a fragrant Kansai-style broth, drawn generously from soda-katsuo bonito flakes, mackerel flakes and sardine niboshi. On a cold day you notice the aroma rising with the steam.

Start with the broth itself

If warming up is the point, fewer toppings mean more broth.

  • Kitsune (fried tofu) 950 yen
  • Aosa seaweed 980 yen
  • Ume-ka 1,180 yen

Aosa brings a note of the sea to the dashi. Ume-ka adds acidity and leaves a lighter finish.

An egg softens the texture

  • Ume and egg 1,280 yen

As the egg dissolves into the broth the texture thickens slightly, and the bowl stays hot to the last mouthful.

When you want real warmth

Fried toppings add a sweetness from the oil that makes the bowl more satisfying.

  • Tempura 1,880 yen
  • Anago tempura 2,200 yen
  • Kuroge wagyu shabu beef udon 3,980 yen

In the shabu beef udon, the fat melts into the dashi and warms you from the inside.

Add a little rice

A small bowl of rice alongside changes how filling the meal is. Seasonal takikomi rice is 600 yen, plain rice 500 yen.
