Autumn at Narita Airport: a warm bowl and seasonal takikomi rice
When the mornings turn cool, the way you spend time at the airport changes a little. Cold noodles give way to a longing for hot broth.
At Mendokoro Tsuruhan we serve seasonal takikomi rice (rice cooked with the season ingredients, 600 yen) as a side. Added to a hot bowl of udon or soba, it changes how satisfying the meal feels.
A hot bowl, with a little rice
Noodles alone are not quite enough, but a full donburi is too much. A small bowl of rice sits neatly in between.
- Seasonal takikomi rice 600 yen
- Plain rice 500 yen
- Ume rice 650 yen
The ingredients change with the season and with what is available.
Hot bowls worth choosing now
Start with something simple, where the aroma of the dashi comes through. If you want more, move to a bowl with tempura.
- Kitsune (fried tofu) 950 yen
- Aosa seaweed 980 yen
- Ume-ka 1,180 yen
- Tempura 1,880 yen
- Anago tempura 2,200 yen
The dashi is drawn here, every day
Our dashi is a fragrant Kansai-style broth, drawn generously from soda-katsuo bonito flakes, mackerel flakes and sardine niboshi. The noodles are Sanuki udon, firm to the bite with a smooth slip down the throat. There is more on our craft page.
