[Narita Airport Dining] Kuroge wagyu meets a fragrant Kansai-style dashi: sublime niku udon and Japanese food at Tsuruhan, Terminal 2

When you want genuinely good Japanese food or udon at Narita International Airport, where do you go?

Mendokoro Tsuruhan Narita International Airport, on the 4th floor of Terminal 2 Main Building, is a place worth noting: an outstanding niku udon in which its signature Kansai dashi meets fine beef. It sits landside, before security, so visitors who are not flying are welcome too.

Here we introduce the lavish signature dishes, and the thinking behind them, that anyone who loves beef or udon should try at least once.

1. Firm Sanuki udon and a fragrant Kansai-style dashi

What Tsuruhan flavour rests on is a firm commitment to ingredients.

Firm Sanuki udon: Sanuki udon, firm to the bite with a smooth slip down the throat. Hot or cold, the character of the noodles comes through.
A fragrant Kansai dashi: Drawn generously from sodagatsuo-bushi, saba-bushi and iwashi niboshi, this Kansai-style broth is deeply savoury yet clean on the finish.

When that superb dashi meets the fat of fine beef, the result is a sublime bowl.

2. Hard to resist: lavish niku udon and other recommendations

1. The clear favourite: chikuwa and egg tempura with seared kuroge wagyu bukkake (1,680 yen incl. tax)
A bowl in which the savour of fragrantly seared kuroge wagyu spreads with every bite. Served with a large, crisp chikuwa tempura and a soft-yolked egg tempura, it is our most satisfying signature dish.

2. Beef to sink your teeth into: Seared kuroge wagyu with grated radish bukkake udon (1,580 yen incl. tax)
Fragrantly seared kuroge wagyu is paired with refreshing grated radish. Firm Sanuki udon and a fragrant Kansai-style dashi bring out the savour of the beef.

3. When you want something hearty: katsu curry udon with kuroge wagyu (1,780 yen incl. tax)
A Japanese-style curry rich with dashi, topped generously with juicy katsu and kuroge wagyu. The sweetness of dashi and beef melts into the spice, and it becomes a habit.

3. A drink to go with your pre-flight moment

Tsuruhan also serves draught beer, highballs, sake (Hakutsuru) and wine by the glass. Order them with something like our four seasonal tempura (700 yen incl. tax) and spend the time before boarding unhurried, in a Japanese space.

4. In closing
